Help Center > Protect yourself from fraudulent activity
Follow these tips to help protect yourself from fraudulent activity.
Report any activity that you believe to be fraudulent to customerservice@wigix.com.
Paypal, Google Checkout, Amazon Payments and Escrow.com are the only payment options that Wigix recommends. If you need to claim a loss, Paypal, Google Checkout and Amazon Payments have payment dispute processes.
Other payment services provide no security for you. You will not be able to get your money back.
Never click on links in private and e-mail messages that you believe to be suspicious.
These could be "phishing" attempts that masquerade as payment service websites (like PayPal), with the intent to steal sensitive information.
Banks and payment services, such as Paypal, will NEVER include links in their messages.
Investigate further by directly typing "paypal.com", "checkout.google.com", or "payments.amazon.com" directly into your web browser's location bar.
Forward any suspicious messages to:
- Paypal: spoof@paypal.com
- Google Checkout: phishing@google.com
- Amazon Payments: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=15836841

If the seller asks you to negotiate through e-mail or another service, ask the seller to continue to negotiate through Wigix.
An email address is easy to obtain. Any negotiations through e-mail is not proper evidence for a Paypal, Google Checkout or Amazon Payment fraud claim. Furthermore, any other websites may be phishing schemes.
If it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't. Be extra careful when considering incredible bargains from unfamiliar sellers. Incredible bargains tend be fraudulent or counterfeit.
Some fraudulent sellers might ask you to pay the majority of the money in shipping and handling so that they can "lessen their sellers' fees." However, in cases of fraud, Paypal, Google Checkout and Amazon Payments will reimburse only the item cost, not shipping and handling costs.
If you know that an item hasn't yet been released and yet a seller is selling it, chances are that the seller doesn't really have it and is poaching for eager buyers. Good sellers never sell anything that isn't already in stock.
Hover your mouse over any seller's name and you will see a mini-profile pop-up. This mini-profile shows the feedback rating and verifications. Click on the feedback numbers to see the details of that feedback. Click on the name to go to the seller's public profile.
The best sellers tend to include the following in their profile:
- verified information (more than just e-mail)
- a good feedback rating
- a storefront (storefront owners also have to verify a credit card with Wigix)
- more than a handful of items selling
- a picture
If you are buying or selling a big ticket item you can use Escrow.com to ensure safety. An escrow service holds the buyer's payment and sends it to the seller only when the buyer receives and approves the item.
Do not send your money to an escrow service other than Escrow.com. There are many fraudulent escrow services. Use only Escrow.com, for it is the only escrow service that is verified with Wigix. Learn more at Escrow.com.
