Victor D. Brenner designed the Lincoln cent which was designed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the president's birthday. The designer's initials V.D.B. appear on the reverse of a limited quantity of the 1909 cents. Later they were removed but restored in 1918 as very small letters on the shoulder. Early proposals for the coin called for a commemorative issue to coincide with the end of World War I, but the Peace Dollar was issued as a circulating coin.Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the Peace Dollar was so named because the word PEACE appears on the bottom of the coin's reverse. It contains 0.77344 troy ounces of silver, and was the successor to the Morgan Dollar, which had not been regularly minted since 1904. With the passage of the Pittman Act in 1918, the mintage of dollar coins was enabled to start again. Prior to the design and acceptance of the Peace Dollar, the Morgan Dollar was minted again in 1921.After a six-year pause in minting, the Peace Dollar was again minted in 1934 and 1935. It was minted briefly in 1965 (dated 1964), but no examples of this issue were ever released to the public and the entire mintage was melted. The Peace Dollar is the last silver dollar minted for circulation in the United States. (less...)

It seeks to convey the idea of the single currency and, by extension, Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) being the latest step in Europe’s long history of trade and economic integration.The coin is issued by each euro area country and shows the name of the country as well as the legend ‘EMU 1999-2009’ in the respective language(s). The design was chosen out of a shortlist of five by members of the public across the European Union voting online. The 2007 10-coin proof set is actually a part of the full 14 coin proof set, but is often sold and traded individually since the presidential dollar set came in its own box in the full 2007 proof sets. The coins come in two blue cases with a certificate of authenticity in one blue and white box. The box may be printed with "2007 United States Mint 10 of 14 Proof Coins", or it may have a sticker on the front with that statement. The certificate, while only detailing the 10 coins in the box, does refer to "this 14-coin set" on the back, in reference to the full 14 coin proof set. The coins included are the Lincoln penny, Jefferson nickel, Roosevelt dime, Kennedy half dollar, and Sacagawea dollar in one case, and the 5 50-state quarters in the other: Montana, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah.
